it’s kinda weird to see fairly successful writers etc still obsessing at the age of 30 over the time they were labeled “gifted” when they were 7 like did that really affect u all this much

Right? I think it’s because we develop coping mechanisms early on to process difficult things. Then those coping mechanisms become our personality and are reinforced for the next decade. Then we decide to look back on why we are the way we are and realize it’s all reactionary.

It just means they scored somewhere in the 96-98 percentile in verbal and non-verbal skills when they were 7 and unprepared for taking that kind of test. I mean all kids can do that, right? Easy peasy...
