as someone who maxed out their library card every week as a kid and then spent a lot of time in adolescence pirating pdfs, the concept of paying $10 for a book on kindle still feels really strange

like i do it bc it is convenient and now i have disposable income to like, not cheat authors out of sales figures etc but i don’t get why this package of bits that i don’t really own costs the same as a paperback

a friend of mine orders the paperback to support the author and then cribs the epub from libgen, converts to mobi with calibre, and reads on kindle

ngl i’ve done this..... the problem is i like to own hard copies of books i like but i also like having a digital one to search/highlight
