private institutes are capitalist entities though and removing legacy admissions is basically "nullify the grandfathered subscription plans your early adopters bought into", except the subscription was for millions of dollars (counting compounded annual donations) FTR i'm down

mit doesn’t do legacies and they are doing Perfectly well in terms of money & prestige while also iirc doing much better than peers in terms of socioeconomic diversity

Broken incentives. Agreed though, honestly I don't see why we couldn't introduce a policy change that required universities to discontinue legacy preferences in order to maintain nonprofit status.
