I take melatonin occasionally and also don't notice anything peculiar about my "melatonin dreams." I've read that people who attribute weird dreams to melatonin use do so because when they start taking melatonin, they get more REM sleep. 1/2

More REM sleep means more dreams, and in turn a higher chance for for weird dreams.
This article explains it better than I can:https://www.huffpost.com/entry/crazy-melatonin-dreams_n_56fd59e6e4b0a06d58051de8 …

Same as the others describe, vivid, but in my case never in a positive way. I use melatonin to adjust from jet lag. Since I’ve started taking 5mg doses instead of 10mg, I haven’t had the vivid dreams.

I've slept 3-5 hours a night since puberty. I almost never remember my dreams if I do dream. No change with melatonin. Not an interesting response, just a data point.

If you happen to be someone that uses both cannabis and melatonin you will end up with vivid but very strange dreams. I end up exhausted because I’m like “Did I just get chased by Jeff Goldblum on a t-Rex wearing a cowboy hat or nah?”

I’ve always had a lot of vivid dreams, almost every night. When I take melatonin the dreams become even more vivid and intense and tend to be nightmarish more often than not. I’ve never taken more than 9mg of melatonin (3mg doses) and it’s the same whether it’s 3 or 6 or 9mg
