Care to elaborate where your frustration comes from? I’m one of those “expats” and for me is difficult to learn to speak fluent German while working in an English speaking company and taking care of my family.
you “don’t have time to learn german bc family” and it’s totally ok while he literally just said his mom was forced to do it even w 4 kids does he really have to spell out to you why that might be frustrating

Indeed, why not be frustrated by the people who imposed that expectation instead. Otherwise the argument is akin to “I suffered so you should too”.
