Thanks to uniquely strong job security, I’d claim that tech workers are more likely to worry about the ethics of their work—that’s why you see things like the Project Maven and Dragonfly protests.
totally agree that college ethics class aren't a cureall by any means! but tech needs to develop a culture of ethics and you gotta start somewhere. the problems are hard to think/reason about but lots of engs don't even try bc the culture/motive isn't there

can't blame fb for not predicting the level of misuse but they consistently react poorly once they find out. the whole culture of vc funding/massive returns over all else creates a sketchy ethical environment and you can say it's bc of business ppl but engs aren't blameless
