one of my faaaavourite classes this term is a readings course i'm taking with a professor I worked with - we plan out 1-2 papers to read per week - meet weekly - and discuss! my focus is on streaming video applications

today's meeting was about twitch the prof and i spent a fair bit of time lamenting our lack of understanding of gaming culture and marvelling over how long twitch sessions were (in 2014, 30+% of them were over 4 hours long?!)

twitch has crazy engagement numbers—my media+tech class had a talk by the washington post about the twitch channel they recently opened, and even for news content they were regularly getting a ton of 2h+ sessions, which for them was just totally unheard of
