To me, skewing anything one way or another involves someone making an ethical decision about representation. Also, you bring up such an interesting point bc I feel like a neutral word like “doctor” has become gendered bc of Google & what it shows as the norm.
oops just gonna pop in on this but a) doctor is a gendered word in some languages; b) i don’t think (?) google images uses CV/any actual model beyond just indexing surrounding text/metadata so it’d be p hard to handle bias w/o addressing the underlying stock photo sets etc

to your second point, I wonder if that's something that's unreasonably hard to do...and if not, why they don't have dedicated teams to work on this. perhaps an even more pressing question is why stock photos still exist anyways.
