So they're supposed to make benches without arms or hand-grips for elderly people or others with balance/mobility issues? Although I don't think the bench in 3rd photo helps anything (the "arms" are too low if you need them for stability), but arms/rails aren't always "hostile".

Another exclusionary feature is making the edges of raised planters, etc, at a steep angle (rather than flat) to discourage people from sitting on them. The entrance to GGP at Haight/Stanyan is a great example.

ah now i understand, your point is that this designs affect homeless people...i don't think the cities are designed around creating spaces for the homeless to sleep, and the point should be to create affordable places not comfortable to sleep benches.
