I won't attend another Linux foundation event unless they decide to distribute more of the wealth into the hands of contributors who could actually use it.
The Linux Foundation may be a trade association in practice, but they don't describe themselves that way on their website and they still solicit donations and sell individual memberships. (Though the individual members no longer have voting rights.)

In any case, legal restrictions are beside the point. The point of the comparison is that Linux Foundation executives get paid more for less achievement than the Apache Foundation executives.

Well, yes... but that's comparing apples & oranges. LF runs dozens of high profile events, creates training programs, spends a _lot_ of time on PR, etc. where ASF... doesn't.

I'm not sure that individual memberships is a strike against being a trade org, but I'd agree that their "About" copy doesn't scream "trade foundation".
