Playing with a DL build design (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MK2wxY ), excited about NVM SSDs. Will allow devs to load more 100s of MBs of JS frameworks!

Also, I'd appreciate any comments about flaws or incompatibilities or wastefulness in this build, intended for DL/RL stuff.

What value do you assign to core count, single core speed, and being able to give two GPUs 16 pci lanes each?

If you sacrifice one of the GPUs, and don't care about core count, you could use a core i7 and get better single core speed for lower price.

Is your data preprocessing pipeline single core bound? Is it easily parallelizable?

Not particularly relevant to RL/MCMC/ABC; and image CNNs don't require much preprocessing other than rescaling which can be done in advance.

RL (and my Bayesian MCMC/ABC stuff too) benefits from cores to run parallel chains/environemtns, which is part of Threadripper's attraction.

Using an Intel non-Xeon CPU would also cost me ECC support as well as cores.
