The Irish leaders’ debate is really quite shocking. The three leaders have a detailed grasp of complex welfare and tax issues, they are polite and courteous, they admit mistakes, they say sorry. They might even be largely honest. Why is all that possible in Ireland but not here?

An issue that will receive very little attention in this election but one which is vital if we are to have a future knowledge economy. Irl spends 0.96% GDP on research, our nearest neighbour, post Brexit UK, plans to spend 2.4% on basic research.

One of Belfast’s oldest ‘peace walls’ is being removed in Duncairn Gardens. It’s a sign of real progress that barriers between our people are being broken down. We all must now work to continue building trust and mutual respect.

Excellent piece on UK v US rationing. “The UK spends barely half what we do, covers everyone, rarely lets cost prove a barrier for people seeking care, and boasts health outcomes better than ours.” Which raises the Q: How do they do it?
