This leads one to ask -- is the purpose of affirmative action-oriented programs like these is to *create* a "detached" elite -- or has such an elite been created as a by-product of these programs?
-
Beneficiaries of affirmative action are often it's harshest critics
-
Sure, but nobody who designs an academic or social program thinks that the purpose of the program should be to produce critics of itself.
-
Tell that to Clearance Thomas or Thomas Sowell, both of whom have noticed the phenomenon with approval. I wonder where they draw the line under Trump and his judicial appointees
-
I'm not sure what you are trying to say here.
-
Critics of affirmative action who have benefited from it are aware that they are very prominent among others with opinions on the question, and they very often hope that others will not have the same opportunity
-
Is this an attempt to say that anyone who benefits from a program is a hypocrite for criticizing it? But if all insiders are hypocrites for criticizing, and all outsider criticism is invalid due to jealousy/resentment, then the program becomes impossible to criticize (!).
-
For example, I am a 1st-generation immigrant who is highly critical of immigration. But it's not because I want others not to experience the same opportunities I had -- but because I think the 1st-world immigration policies are irrational and unsustainable.
