This is the piece I never wanted to publish.

And here's a well-reported look at how the law is playing out on the ground in Texas. Chilling effect, achieved.

There's been some anti-abortion opposition to the law, though it reminds me of reading about Never Trumpers. They'll all take if it ends legal abortion.

Do the feds have any chance of stopping the Texas abortion law? Would it help if someone intentionally broke the law and provided a post-6-week abortion? Or maybe no court can fix this.

New low for among voters: negative 37 – 50 percent job approval rating, with 13 percent no opinion. "This is the worst job approval since Quinnipiac University began asking the question in 2004, and a steep drop from July 2020, when registered voters approved 52 – 37 %"

A brazenly political court let Texas ban almost all abortions. Politics may be the only thing to stop it. reports

I just burst into tears when I read that they separated her for hours from her toddler whose hearing aids were then lost. The terror of it.

Black women throughout my circle, and anyone who has struggled with fertility and delayed motherhood, are having all the feelings about this powerfully vulnerable and honest excerpt from Gabrielle Union’s new book. Best thing you’ll read today.

Among other things, Michael K. Williams was right about season 2, which wore even worse on recent rewatch. The half hearted sex trafficking plot. The shallow characters straight out of rust belt diner interviews, more thesis statements than human.

But I guess let's take them at their word - SB8 doesn't apply to trans men, so clinics can perform abortions for them without fear of lawsuits.

Not only does the 5th Circuit hate abortion, but it also hates trans people.

This whole thread, but especially this. Nothing has made me reaffirm my support of abortion rights more than giving birth.

I will say that before, the potential violation of staying pregnant against my will was imaginable. But more viscerally real now is giving birth — an entirely separate, potentially terrifying and deadly undertaking that can change you forever. And I had a pretty good experience!

I’m not being glib. People told me things like “you’ll see,” in one direction or another. But you know what? It was my experience, my embryo, fetus, then kid, and sometimes it bore no resemblance to what I was told to expect.

Here’s my admission to the “being pregnant/parenting taught me x about abortion” genre. It taught me that each person’s experience is awesomely distinct —physically, emotionally, socially, politically —and no one has any business telling you how to feel or what to do about yours.

Every performance I saw from Michael K. Williams was soulful, playful, layered, impossible to forget. His real-life advocacy moved me. I’m so saddened by this news in a way I rarely am about someone I don’t know.
