Like geodes, cutting Quaternion Julia sets in half exposes their beautiful interior. Youtube link for higher quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ2bnU4dkso …pic.twitter.com/lIzlgT1U0g

Gorgeous! What inflects the animation? Is it just the cutting position?

Fantastic, inspirational work! Is this still @Shadertoy based & how are you writing out those images? What are approximate render times & sample count per frame?

I made it all @Shadertoy and then used my Shadertoy Farm Renderer to render it to disk. It's rendered at 2048 samples per pixel. Some shots took 30 secs per frame, others in 15 mins (complexity levels varied). No de-noising was used, what you see is all the real fractal detail.

Wonderful work! So pleasing to the eye. Especially the translucent thin strands and veils. Have you seen @JuliusHorsthuis work with fractals by the way?

There seems to be rotational symmetry of order three, is this true?

Yes! These are all Julia sets for the cubic f(z) = z³+c. So any three initial points separated by a 120 degree rotation { z₀, z₀·e^i·2π·1/3, z₀·e^i·2π·2/3 } will share the orbit after the first iteration, since z₁=z₀³+c in the three cases. So they'll share color too.
