I'm already seeing it that way. If you're using ML to solve a well-formed problem with a definitive solution, it's an admittance to not having a understanding of the problem at hand.

Exactly. But since going the ML route is cheaper than investing in understanding and also faster to market development, it is going to happen a lot. So at some point those who do the investment will want to market it to differentiate themselves. Hence the label.

Good thing btw that in games & computer graphics all we do is apply sequences of matrices to vectors, which is nothing like machine learning.. right?
