It's a system I believe is purposefully created to disillusion white boys away from progressive/liberal perspectives. First, the boys are inundated by memes featuring subtly racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-Semitic jokes. Being kids, they don't see the nuance & repeat/share.
Then they're called out for these jokes/phrases/memes by parents, teachers, kids (mostly girls) at school & online. The boys then feel shame & embarrassment - and shame is the force that, I believe, leads people to their worst decisions.
note: since the girls are calling out the boys for sharing harmful media then it doesn't track that boy "Being kids, they don't see the nuance & repeat/share". it isn't about being kids since the girls are kids and the girls aren't repeating/sharing.
note: instead, i wonder why the girls identify and refrain from sharing the harmful media that the boys are sharing. what are the girls understanding that the boys are not?
note: question: how do we encourage and support boys dealing with shame in ways that resolve it rather than allowing it to morph into anger and ultimately alt-right/white supremacy? also, how do we help them avoid this situation in the 1st place?
