You guys came up with a lot of good responses to this! I wasn't trying to argue that there were no non-violent games, I just couldn't think of any at the time.

Although I don't believe that violent video games are causing any society-wide problems, it is interesting to think how few games lack any violence-based mechanics whatsoever. Tetris is one example. Are there any examples outside the puzzle genre?

I guess there are things like Transport/Rail Tycoon simulator-type things, although even those often have 'crash' mechanics in them (tho you often have to intentionally trigger them) , but yeah that's an interesting point actually.

harvest moon is a good one, i guess also racing games, some platformers like little big planet

not to counter your point tho, just thinking of some examples. I do agree that its hard to think of games without violence. though even playing games like Fallout, Red Dead Redemption etc and I have a choice I would take non-violent solutions
