Just a note of reminder that while China has improved in some aspects, these has come at the costs of many sacrifices made by grassroot ppl struggling to live and to fend for their rights. After all, what has preserving memories of history got to do with a country's prosperity?

The Pillar of Shame was erected in Victoria Park in 1997 to mark the 8th anniversary of
#TiananmenSquareMassacre, then moved to the@HKUniversity in the same year. It witnesses how freedom & human rights have been changing in Hong Kong. Who is shameful to have it removed

The management staff of HKU should be ashamed of such decision. They ruin its reputation which built in the past.

Groups are forced to disband, civil society dismantled. Purge and persecution take place every day The deplorable tyranny is so obsessed with power and control. Stop it now, or you may be the next victim.

The University of Hong Kong Coat of Arms https://www.facebook.com/pg/HongKongStateCountry/photos/?tab=album&album_id=818227111843545 … The grant of the coat of arms to the University occurred in two stages. On 14 May 1913, shortly after its foundation, the University was granted a shield and a motto by the College of Arms.

What a shame that HKU took the initiative to order the removal of the sculpture. But prodemocracy Hong Kongers will continue to pass down the memories of 8964 to the next generations.
