Iowa Democrats’s Tweets

Iowa Republicans only care about catering to the worst impulses in their party and putting politics ahead of Iowa kids’ safety. Our kids deserve better than to be used as pawns by politicians who lack the empathy and compassion to imagine a world where everyone is accepted.

New from @patrynard: House Republicans introduced a bill today that would require school staff to out many LGBTQ students to their families regardless of their home situation. Co-sponsors include Speaker Pat Grassley. iowastartingline.com/2023/01/11/gop

A subcommittee of the whole has been scheduled in the senate—TODAY—skipping the usual a public opportunity to speak. You can show up in RM116 at 11:30 and will likely be able to speak. Know pro vouchers folks were informed in advance, they’ll be there. More info below:

Well, well. Remember how the public emergency intercom interrupted the State Senate President’s speech teeing up vouchers? 🚨🚨This isn’t a test. 🚨🚨 Private School Vouchers are ramming through the both house and Senate ED committee tomorrow with NO actual subcommittees.

. is not offering a choice. She is stacking the deck against our public schools and setting our kids and educators up for failure. Public dollars belong in public schools.
On a dark blue background, the text says "A statement from the Iowa Democratic Party Chair Ross Wilburn: lowans are counting on us to lower costs for their families, protect their reproductive freedoms and provide every lowa child with a world-class public education. But as usual,
Kim Reynolds is only listening to special interests and her corporate donors. Instead of investing in our public schools to ensure that every child's needs are met, Kim Reynolds and low Republicans are hell-bent on dumping public dollars into the coffers of unaccountable out-of-state corporations. Kim Reynolds is not offering a choice. She is stacking the deck against our public schools and setting our kids and educators up for failure. Iowa Democrats are committed to putting people over politics, and we won't sit back while Kim Reynolds and low Republicans chip away at the foundational principles of our state."

I was proud to hold my hand on the prayer book of my great-grandfather Abraham Zabner. He immigrated from Ostrowiec, Poland to Venezuela. I can't imagine he would think that his great-grandson would be an Iowa state representative.

Private schools do not have the same state mandated requirements for accountability and transparency. Public schools are accountable and transparent to the parents and community they serve. Get the facts on vouchers at ISEA.org/vouchers. #WeChoosePublicSchools

Our public schools are the lifeblood of our communities. We need to fully fund our public schools, not siphon money away to unaccountable out-of-state corporations.

"Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part." - Congressman John Lewis Today, we remember the horrific attack on the United States Capitol and recommit to safeguarding and upholding our democratic values.
On a black and white photo of the U.S. Capitol, the text says "Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part." The quote is attributed to Congressman John Lewis (1940-2020).

It can be incredibly dangerous to be pregnant in an abortion-restricted state. I am concerned about women, like Kaitlyn, who cannot get the care they need because of laws that criminalize doctors for doing their job. These restrictions on women's bodies are absolutely shameful.

One woman in post-Roe Louisiana began to worry when she started to bleed heavily and had labor-like pains early in her pregnancy. But two different ERs wouldn't confirm she was miscarrying or explain her treatment options. n.pr/3vouJvR

Every Iowan deserves to make decisions about their own body and future – without shame, stigma, or barriers from politicians.

Iowa risks falling behind other states economically if we don’t become a place that is more hospitable to workers, not just large corporations. Raising the minimum wage to at least $15 would benefit nearly half a million Iowa workers. It’s time to do the right thing.
