I made a small web app that creates UI designs programmatically. It randomizes design sizing, colors, typography, and some of other properties. Try it out here:

Developers will look at the code of a legacy system and go "gee that's a lot of technical debt" while really looking at a decade of organizational angst and dysfunction.

An opinion I find myself repeating in a lot of 1:1s: The key to getting things done in a mid-sized (100-1200) company, especially one that's grown a lot recently, is your willingness to see things through to the end and internal refusal to be blocked.

You can do Scrum until you're blue, but if you're fighting your code to make small changes, agility is impossible. Fix that first. Bad code costs real money and adds real delay. The cost of that delay often easily exceeds the cost of a rewrite.

What executives actually want to hear - people keep telling what executives actually want to hear from vendors. Well. What is it? Also, is kubernetes really a platform for building platforms, or already a platform? It's #168!

Yes, and a good architecture enables agility. But that "good architecture" doesn't come for free. Some thought is required.

Engineers, ask to sit in on sales / support calls / customer demos. Managers, encourage your engineers to do this. Break down artificial silo bullshit and build products holistically. Say thank you to the people who get customers (sales) and who keep customers (support).

Trying a new phrasing: resilience cannot be “built” into software. That’s conflating robustness with resilience. Resilience is investing (and sustaining that investment) in adaptive capacity for *unanticipated* situations. Only people have the flexibility to adapt in those.
