  7. In one example, last year Amt was part of a legal case against one of the new coffee shop/restaurants in Marib over segregation. Non-Yemeni women were allowed to mix with men i.e sit in the same section. Yemenis weren't. Amt took the case to court. It was thrown out

  8. I am horrified to hear my friend Amt has been arrested by Political Security (PSO) in Marib, Yemen. Amtallah al-Hammadi has been an outspoken feminist in her constant fight for women's rights. A brave and cherished friend. Marib authorities must free her immediately

  9. Real issue here is Britain still having an appointed second chamber. Only the British could laud their “democracy”when half the parliament is unelected and the other half is decided by first past the post. How this remains the accepted norm tells you how easily conditioned we are

We concluded at least 22,679 civilians have likely been killed by US strikes since 2001. That's more than 1,000 deaths on average a year. The maximum estimated figure is far higher - at 48,308.

  13. There is precedent. Yemen’s president Hadi has made a career (and a lot of money) out of being a president in exile. I’m sure he can offer some pointers including how to keep the “internationally recognised president” title despite not residing in the country for 6+ yrs.

Biden: "We went to Afghanistan almost 20 years ago, with clear goals. Get those who attacked us on September 11 2001. ...We never gave up the hunt for Osama bin Laden & we got him." What he didn't say: The U.S. turned down multiple opportunities to avert this war altogether:

If they didn’t know what they we’re doing they’re utterly ignorant. If they knew what they were doing they’re utterly arrogant. For diplomats of this caliber, neither is good.
