    In one example, last year Amt was part of a legal case against one of the new coffee shop/restaurants in Marib over segregation. Non-Yemeni women were allowed to mix with men i.e sit in the same section. Yemenis weren't. Amt took the case to court. It was thrown out

    There is precedent. Yemen’s president Hadi has made a career (and a lot of money) out of being a president in exile. I’m sure he can offer some pointers including how to keep the “internationally recognised president” title despite not residing in the country for 6+ yrs.

    The Taliban are in power today, not "despite 20 years of US presence", but precisely because of the form of US presence and the political order that ensued. It is a mess we created, not one that we failed to fix out of incompetency or lack of resources.

    We truly are terrible leeches. I've never been proud to call myself a journalist. We do this sort of thing all the time with zero self awareness all while claiming to be so virtuous.

    I recieved over 100 interview requests since this situation unfolded in Kabul. Only a handful of those journalists showed solidarity with my situation. Most insisted on getting the interview. None of them said they'll call someone or relevant authority to help me leave Kabul!
