I had always hoped to see something like this happen with the 1st National building downtown, maybe someone could convince Peach. It would be a much cheaper and more realistic project than the proposed development.

This bldg at 310 W 4th Ave (and the parking lot) are for sale. It would be great to see the parking lot be redeveloped, the rent from the existing building could help with financing. #downtown #anchorage

Here’s an old ARCO ad encouraging people to try public transportation. Does Conoco give office staff in Anchorage bus passes? If not, maybe they could try it. #transit

Ah yes, just and an “e” to the end to make it classy. Welcome to the shoppes at Northe Pointe Centre’.

On an unrelated note, that’s the building that is basically 5 McKay Buildings glued together.

Another type of #desirepath. I don’t condone damaging property or trespassing but, I will say that it’s not surprising that people will resort to this if the property is a significant barrier to access in the area. #pedestriandignity

Who struck the bicyclist? The car or the driver of the car? Did the driver flee because the car struck the cyclist?

These headlines, smh. Did two pedestrians collide? No! Someone struck a pedestrian with their vehicle. #pedestriandignity

After being in place since the 70s, I think it is time to call "Right on Red" a failed experiment and ban it nationwide.

What if every time our clothes felt a little tight, we bought bigger clothes rather than changing our habits? What if we just accepted that we’ll continue growing in an unhealthy way and budgeted for bigger clothes every year? Crazy, right? Why do we do it with our roads?

This is really disappointing. I was hoping for an RV rental place or at least a gravel pit.

We are doing absolutely nothing to incentivize the building of new homes when the highest and best use for the old Sea Galley lot along C Street in midtown is a car wash and equipment supplier.

Took a walk around Government Hill last weekend, great neighborhood. I wanted to post this desire path, the street here has no sidewalks and this path seems to be in the ROW with connections to a nearby park. Let’s get this paved. #anchorage #desirepaths #pedestriandignity

I was riding my bike through E 4th and noticed this closed up tire shop. What a great building! I could see this being converted to a brewpub or something like it. Unfortunately, there’s nothing around but car dealerships and rental lots.

This is an exciting discussion--for too long planners/engineers have been building our roads with *their* priorities to move vehicles fast, rather than most people's priorities to connect people to places.
Streets are public space: we have a right to build them to our values.

Happy to have my name on this alongside some truly wonderful neighbors. Making our urban streets safer, more walkable, and more bike-friendly, is good for healthy lifestyles, good for business, good for public safety, and good for the environment. adn.com/opinions/2022/

I walked through this area today and it struck me how great it would have been if the strip malls faced the housing with the parking lots behind the malls rather than in front. #anchorage #stripmalls #midtown

May 15, 1949, the 4th Avenue Theatre in Anchorage. The theater opened in 1947 with a showing of The Jolson Story. If you want a picture of the sign, you might think about heading downtown sooner than later as it will demolished this summer. #alaskahistory #anchoragehistory

This thread unintentionally demonstrates what we expect medical offices to look like - Low density, free standing buildings. Residential upzoning is important but this inefficient land use should take precedence in conversations about densification. #urbanism #landuse #anchorage

These actions by the administration are very disappointing and will negatively impact our community as a whole. I strongly urge the Mayor’s office to honor their commitments and support the arts in our city.

I've spent the last 5 days reading through muni code, budgets, transcribing a commission meeting, and trying to figure out what the hell is going on with the Mayor's Art Grants funding.
What I found shocked me.

Don’t let the name fool you, because there’s something NEW in Old Seward; Route 85! Still less than a year old, you can easily hop aboard with a quick transfer from Route 25 at Tudor and Old Seward and connect with Route 85.

What is the Anchorage style hot dog? Is it simply the reindeer dog with onions or is it something more?
Quote Tweet
The nation’s best hot dog style is Seattle style:
• cream cheese
• grilled onions
• hoagie bun
• cabbage, jalapeños, sauerkraut optional
