But with slightly different ideas for the origins of the storyline: it instead takes place in 2030 after the mother of all economic collapses but also tiberium as a deus ex machina to build things back up, but governments have still gone completely haywire...

...so the GDI is actually just like this heavily militarized hodgepodge of western professional militaries trying to restore order while the global south rallies around Kane, who should still be super campy and fantastical as a character.

That leaves the question of China, I don't like the idea that they're just some Nod backer. So instead in this storyline they've actually just walled themselves off from all of this and made it known that they will rain hellfire on either faction if they try to flex on them

Meanwhile, it'll turn out that both Nod and GDI are by and large (but not entirely) run by apocalyptic cults. Perhaps then the ending is that they both wanted a war that leads to that iconic scene where Kane is killed (or not?) by the ion cannon.
