The main reason - to remove the confusion. Usage of 'break' was changed to 'yield' in Java 13, to easily distinguish between 'switch statements' and 'switch expressions'. Here's the reference - https://openjdk.java.net/jeps/354

@intellijidea have you added jre in 2019.2 ? gwt super dev mode is not working ,it throws protobuf connection fail error in idea.log I use adoptJDK1.8 and removed one added by default by IDE. -
