Okay, I figured it out... it's a general setting you have to turn off on the settings for Youtube, would've thought it'd be on the video. Definitely not a good idea to have turned on by default.
Does anyone know how to turn this obviously problematic feature off?? @YouTube @TeamYouTube Annotations doesn't work. This has been happening for a while now, never found out how to turn it off. It's ruining people's videos, especially tutorials. I can't see.pic.twitter.com/Rmv0MFkOBg

Well, the only thing that actually works is Inspect Element. I don't think video makers meant to obscure their video in the last 20 seconds, so there should be a way for viewers to turn it off, just like their annotations.
