Too any ingroup/outgroup divides are driven by spurious triggering of ancient brain circuits meant to keep us from real danger, but which actually work against us. Playfulness, storytelling and empathy bring them back to manageable levels.

Only today I realized that Númenor and Gondor are meant to be parallels to Rome and the Byzantine Empire respectively.

The American Historical Association's site has a section on pamphlets that were produced for American soldiers in WWII and they're amazing For instance, it seems it was a common belief during WWII that personal airplanes and helicopters would eventually be as common as cars.

Our believing or not in ideas has much more to do with their aesthetics convincing us than their content

I guess what I'm trying to say here is - if a little kid ever runs up to you and starts telling you everything about why the sky turns red in the sunset - listen to them, even if you're tired. You can make a big difference for them. (19/20)
