Thanks for this reminder of history both global and personal. I wish Trump and his base would learn from this story.

Remember vividly Jane Pauley interviewing woman on the street in Berlin. She asked what will become of the wall? Woman said the Americans will buy it, they will buy anything. I have a piece of the wall but didn’t buy it.

A year or two later Soviet conscripts and Germans were selling bits of the wall, I assume by the end they were just selling random rubble from anywhere and claiming it was the WALL.

Wow will always remember the day the wall fell. I had said goodbye to my girlfriend from the GDR on the Monday on Prague. She returned to Berlin I to London. 1/2

On the Thursday shortly before the 10pm news the phone rang. My mum answered it was Ute. The line was much clearer & I akrd her why she answered that she was in West Berlin. I assumed she'd escaped she told me no the wall was gone. My mum turned on the news to see it was true.
