Steam + Proton would be a fine middle translation layer to get a fair few games to be compatible, even without official ports. I can play Fallout 3 on Linux using Steam. It's easier to get working there than on Windows 10. Chugs along nicely on my old iGPU in the laptop.

Maybe some enterprising soul will do a directx to metal2 translation, like Proton does with dx->vulkan. Rumours of an Apple gaming PC haven't entirely gone away. Who knows? RDNA2 from AMD will bring a lot of potential gaming horsepower to Mac perhaps next year.
