Hey homotopy/category folks, what makes the simplex category so special? So far I have - It’s a strict test category (so sSets are equillenvant to spaces & products work well) - Nerve of a category is a sSet - It relates in many ways to the augmented simplex & cycle categories

That's cool, can't have too much category theory.

IMHO, actually you can. There are many subjects that are greatly illuminated by category theoretic formulations, but if you never touch down with applications it becomes a bit barren. So like pretty much everything in life, it is good to have perspective. YMMV.
