Yes for literature I think, although a small majority (among canonical authors). Probably not for music and sculpture/painting

Classical musicians/composers were servant/actor-class creatures until ~ Beethoven I think? Pre-Christian Ireland might be a counterexample on the Literary front (where the poet hierarchy was parallel to the royal one (helped that a poet wasn't just a poet but a poet/lawyer) ).
