I'm glad someone else was not on board with the Ferris wheel scene. I think it was meant to be 'celebratory' and 'unashamed' but all I could think was how fucked it was that these kids can't cherish a tender moment to thensrkves, without sanctimonious cheers from their str8 m8s

That entire sequence is downright cruel. Equally galling is that he publicly outs his lover after making a speech about each person's right to determine their own coming out; an hypocrisy to which the film seems utterly blind.

The frustrating thing is that the film invented these plots. The book was much more subtle and sympathetic to its characters – EXCEPT the incel nerd who is never 'forgiven' or 'redeemed'.
