      Kevin Beaumont Retweeted Kaspersky

Kaspersky continues to be one of the best research outfits about Russian intelligence operations. Now US cyber companies can continue to copy their work and then criticise them as being in pockets of Russian intelligence agencies.https://twitter.com/kaspersky/status/1079800130189082627 …

      Kevin Beaumont added,

Being a tool of the state and writing analysis of the state are not mutually exclusive for an organization the size of Kaspersky. Also the article says Arbor Networks had already detected it months earlier; Kaspersky *has* to do a write-up now to not look willfully blind.

Also, they are just re-reporting this analysis from competing firm ESET (based in Slovakia): https://www.welivesecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/ESET-LoJax.pdf …. And the findings were presented at an open conference in Germany. Not reporting it would look absolutely suspicious.

Fair. I am being a *little* harsh. Still, doing some public work on something that's become public and is bound to be dissected by hundreds of other researchers around the world doesn't increase my level of trust in them (or others, for that matter).

Don't forget that big company = big amount of insiders of cyber crime organisations. That's true not only for Kaspersky

Hope Microsoft, Apple, Linux Foundation and others will stop support AV companies despite of where they located. White list based on digital signatures can stop up to 95% of malware.
