I liked a lot of Mindhunter but felt like its reliance on the perspective of men ultimately undercut some of its critique of misogyny

like i wonder if shows which don’t eventually center the lens of women and femme people can actually work to make hypermasculine men question their dominant position?

Especially considering the fact that it was actually women's research into sexual abuse which led the FBI to investigate serial killers in new ways https://mic.com/articles/186062/mindhunter-is-a-critique-of-misogyny-but-it-still-sidelines-women-in-favor-of-men#.WS4Zfh8UD …

, it was firsthand accounts from women which really challenged this institution's perspective on violent men (and it was a team project after that)1 reply 0 retweets 4 likesShow this thread -
It’s usually done is less interesting ways, but Hollywood has been trying to figure out the terrifying actions of men via *men looking at men* kinda since the very beginning

But Wendy could have been the protagonist of this show - or at least taken over more of the perspective in the second half

On patreon I expand on how if you switched the order of scenes and ended with Wendy and the missing cat, instead of another killer, it might feel a little different https://www.patreon.com/posts/15107538

But again I mostly liked its depiction of how misogyny spreads, and I’m not advocating for more scenes of women in peril. Just that men’s struggle with masculinity is often shown to be mysterious, compelling drama - but women living amongst these men is somehow less interesting.

I think it’s actually near impossible to get men to listen to women - or to feel compelled to take any action to challenge patriarchy - without centering women and femininity
