Politicians often change their stance once educated on a topic. Do you know it was nefarious? Or just everyday politics?

If you read the article, you'll see that she didn't say she changed her mind. On the contrary, she wrote to the journalist: "my position has always been the same." So can we now agree that this was not OK?

She changed her mind at a very convenient time. Also, opposing Israeli policies is not anti-Semitic. Opposing the existence of a Jewish state is anti Semitic. These two things are conflated too often. Many American Jews support a Palestinian state but do not support BDS.

I just read the @haaretzcom article. In the synagogue, Omar was clearly criticizing specific BDS tactics, not condemning BDS. I often criticize ADL’s tactics (now, for instance, & when ADL speaks out against NOI but not the GOP), without believing ADL should cease to exist.

I read it as her criticizing boycotts, which is what BDS does. I agree with you that we can criticize an org without saying it should not exist. But if the point is to boycott and you don’t approve of boycotts, it is reasonable to think she didn’t support BDS./1

Either way, I am more concerned about the big picture. Criticizing Israel does not make Rep-elect Omar antisemitic and that is an unfair label. We all need to do a better job of using specifics and not equating opposition to Israeli policies with antisemitism.

I worry that the definition of the term “anti-Semitism” is up for grabs. That is dangerous.

Gosh, maybe we can totally ignore how BDS advocates for the actual destruction of the Israeli state which, is by definition, anti-Semitic. Support BDS, support anti-Semitism. It's pretty simple, actually.

Not the definition I read. I mean...Israel is a country, Jewish is a religion. It’s totally possible to oppose a State and be indifferent towards or even like the religion. From one perspective, the creation of that State displaced the indigenous people of that region, no?

You're basically saying that Jews don't have a connection to that land. You're also saying that Israelis can't be indigenous. Both are false. For example, the Golden Mosque, Islams 3rd holiest site, sits on top the 3000 year old ruins of Jewish temple, Judaisms No 1 site. So....

It’s a pretty silly argument to me, who came first, both being present for so long. It sounds like a two state solution could actually work if it weren’t for what appears to be, from an outside perspective, deep bigotry from Jews in Israel against Palestinians. #ethnocentrism

And they can afford to be massive bigots because they have all the weapons. Israel is the clear aggressor but we are constantly being told we are supposed to feel sorry for them because some people don’t like them for no reason. Some people don’t like them for good reason.
