PROBABILITY PUZZLE: Randomly follow arrows starting at top. What's the chance to reach level n? i.e Find the row survival function, given uniformly random policy. Cells in the center are absorbing. To the memory of the great CMU review:

  3. Mainstream media is so bad, they don't even sort the rows of their data. Whoever is working on data at needs to take Data Visualization classes. Here's a better version of the poll results I did in google doc. You can see what's happening more clearly.

  4. In general, disconnecting/partitioning a network at the minimum cost is NP-hard. This is called the minimum multiway cut problem.

A rule change is extremely informational. Not necessarily what they change it to but the fact that a change occurs that's where the information is.

My attempt for our book at explaining the difficulty of training deep networks, for folks not familiar with math beyond high school. Any suggestions to make this clearer or simpler (*not* more mathematically rigorous)?

  15. Looks like juggling goes back to ancient times. Legend says it was an ancient bored fruit seller that invented the art of juggling. However I really doubt the truth of this story because I just made it up.

  19. This curve is sub-exponential. The acceleration is slowing, but with some types of networks, if you hit a hub you suddenly connect to a very big number of nodes. The diffusion can suddenly hit a significant (critical) threshold and things suddenly change. The real BlackSwan.
