The amount of agency you're granted will vary based on a lot of factors (especially your level/seniority), but I suspect the amount you have is a decent proxy for career growth potential in a given role

You call always take agency, without waiting for it to be granted. Just either be very, very good or work your track in parallel with orthodoxy (which is a cost but worth it).
