So when seeking jobs people should avoid "staff [job title]" jobs?

No, not at all! Staff is a word used in industry for very senior roles. My original tweet was saying there are certain job titles that are perceived as requiring less skill or as being less prestigious, so people don't think there's a place for a very senior version of that role

not a subtweet of any particular situation, just a pattern i’ve seen a lot for roles that are perceived as less technical or prestigious. i personally hear it directed at analyst titles a lot, and in that context it’s usually implied that they should eventually become a DS
