Data Mesh Twitter is on
today and I couldn't be more excited. Completely coincidentally, I just published this... https://www.montecarlodata.com/decoding-the-data-mesh/ … Thanks @zhamakd & @lenadroid for the brilliant conversation! #datamesh

It really is the hot topic. I have been open about my lack of understanding, and it does seem like there's inconsistency in some key aspects of its definition. This is a great post!

I'm with you. It feels like a bit of everything trendy served in a cocktail of buzzwords. I read Kimball and Inmon 2 decades ago, been a practitioner at many very modern data forward companies (FB, Airbnb, Lyft) , and I feel very disoriented reading about data mesh.

I wrote out learning paths for this exact reason (below). If you are coming from the angle I think you are, check out

Hey
@mistercrunch!
long time no talk.
I did indeed try and explain things as best I could in this post. If you can look past the jargon, I think most stuff is pretty sane.https://cnr.sh/essays/what-the-heck-data-mesh …4 replies 0 retweets 4 likes -

Paraphrasing: 1. Different areas of the warehouse are owned by different people/teams. Ok 2. Apply some rigor to it (schema, change management, ...). Ok 3. A data platform. Ok 4. Some tools to make sense of all the distributed chaos per 1. Ok

1. There are no warehouses in a mesh. There are autonomous data product quantums that provide multimodal access to domain data for analytical workloads - connected together in a graph - each both transforming and serving/controlling immutable bitempiral data.

If this tweet is thinly veiled sarcasm, we’ll played. Otherwise, I’m with Chris on this one.

My mind went to Poe from Star Wars even though I've only seen one or two of the new trilogy and then went to Admiral Ackbar. I think I need to call it a weekend

i think admiral ackbar is relevant here. conversations about the data mesh are surely a trap
