I find it weird how often people seem to not care about open source in technical recruiting. not to say literally nobody cares about github portfolios and OS contributions, just seems like it has less weight on average than it should.

IMO this is a sign that a recruiting process has been standardized to a point where it can no longer usefully assess individual strengths, or that a hiring manager has doesn't have enough time for carefully sourcing candidates
