not to say literally nobody cares about github portfolios and OS contributions, just seems like it has less weight on average than it should.
IMO this is a sign that a recruiting process has been standardized to a point where it can no longer usefully assess individual strengths, or that a hiring manager has doesn't have enough time for carefully sourcing candidates
Both are terrible signs, especially when you're trying to hire domain experts and/or senior talent
