One of the hardest things to do as a DS leader is communicate about why it's hard to be a DS. Most folks simply don't understand the challenges DS face so it's very important to do... but man is it a slog sometimes

If you can, pair a diagnosis of a problem with a proposed solution or two. Being asked to do something your team doesn’t have the expertise to do? Talk about who you’d need to hire or about what it would take to train someone in that competency and what they’d be pulled off doing

I find that helps contextualize DS problems in the bigger ecosystem of your company, which makes it easier to think through where DS should or shouldn’t fit in
