the best thing about being a statistician is that you get to play in everyone’s backyard, but sometimes people’s backyards have like 20 garden gnomes and you don’t know them well enough that you feel comfortable asking why in god’s name they would ever make such a choice

lol like when you show up, they hand you 20 p-values and say, ‘pay special attention to these significant ones over here.’ ? 🔎🔬🤦

The most important thing about being a statistician is that you should never forget that you are usually playing in somebody else's backyard, so be humble.

Tru dat. In a new backyard, it is not hard for a statistician to do the statistics right, but it is often hard to do the right statistics.

Ooooh I hope this metaphor continues. What are these gnomes doing? What are their names?

19 of the gnomes are due to arbitrary historical choices but one gnome is critical for preventing tragic accidents

Far too often, you end up playing in an overgrown garden where it's obvious the planning was either amiss or non-existent altogether. Pulling weeds is not the most efficient use of a statistician's time and skills. Plus, one reaps what one sows!pic.twitter.com/4ahZWzGpft

One of them is probably not actually a garden gnome.

but then you walk into the economists back yard and then have to report the piles and piles of dead bodies theyve decorated with
