In an ads-driven business, a site's DAU is really a proxy for its revenue generating potential, so the company needs to ensure that another company's unique new content format isn't a differentiator that will pull away the attention of their DAUs

When all sites have the same content formats available, it means their real competitive advantages--their user generated content and their built in audiences--are safer. They're a lot harder to replicate than an audio chat product
