One of the most important mindset shifts I've had in my growth as a professional, particularly as a data scientist and even more so as a manager, was realizing that my job was not to stop people from making bad choices as much as it was to help people make good choices.

I really like this take, I would like to add a third potential perspective, which is to stop bad things from happening *again*. This approach views data as an opportunity to learn from past mistakes, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Predicting the future is hard, and it's especially hard to predict the impact that data might have on a future decision. How much value did the data really bring? How much better was the decision really? These questions are hard to answer.
