thinking about the worst advice i've gotten in my (short) career, "being a generalist" is probably the most destructive thing i was told. actively set me back my a couple of years

I'm with ya here. Generalist can be code for "data scientists fill the cracks and do shit no one else thinks is worth doing." It CAN be a path to glory, but if everyone is avoiding something, there's probably a good reason why

it's funny how people have seen their own struggles in this tweet. i was referring to generalists above any specific skillset, i.e if you can code you are already not a generalist. but as a data person - agree
