This is pretty interesting. A while back, in a related moment, I was trying to understand why HackerRank and Leetcode suddenly became the defacto tools for even data science interviews and couldn’t get to the bottom of it. So if anyone knows the similar background, Normcore is 👂https://twitter.com/GergelyOrosz/status/1343651654718124037 …

A little known fact on why Cracking the Coding interview is - and will be - one of the best resources to prepare for coding interviews at {hot tech company}. The author has another business: helping companies design their interview loops. And here's the kicker:

Honestly, I would be sort of reassured if something like this were true. DS interviews feel like pure chaos, ranging from testing for knowledge of SQL joins, to designing complicated experiments to account for network effects, to literally recreating PySpark

I think this is part of the standardization but it sucks

The more I prep for my first DS role, the more it feels like I’m looking for the secret entrance to the speakeasy in an MC Escher drawing.pic.twitter.com/yckDxk0Gxq

100%. they're both only useful for a certain kind of DS interviews where SQL is an important part

Agreed. I've been part of 2 types of DS. I used to do ML to build algos, now I work on generating product insight. Leetcode SQL is more useful for the latter My sense is that many DS folks carry an inherent complex about their CS skills which makes them want to upskill that area
