The promise of mathematical elegance draws people to DS, and the infuriating messiness of trying to quantify the world drives some away. I wonder if framing the profession as being about measurement (rather than being a Cool Algorithms Jockey) would help manage disillusionment
Although I will admit, "Cool Algorithms Jockey" is a hard title to resist.
Might not carry the same stigma of being a DJ
