Well, because I now regularly say the word ‘baby” (due to working on the Boss Baby team), all of my targeted ads are officially pregnancy and child related

All I have is my own anecdotal evidence. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There’s always been mixed public reporting as to whether or not they listen. Whether targeted ads are coming from data collection or audio collection, I find either creepy, especially around sensitive subjects like pregnancy.
Oh for sure. I'm not saying it's not creepy or that that's how it should be, ESPECIALLY with sensitive subjects. There are lots of people in the industry (myself included) who are deeply against this kind of targeting and personalization and are constantly fighting against it.

Advertisers may be tracking us with audio, but they're more likely to rely on simple yet effective methods; audio's a lot of effort for a small gain. Rather than worry about being listened to, you should protect yourself with things like adblockers and password managers.
