Well, because I now regularly say the word ‘baby” (due to working on the Boss Baby team), all of my targeted ads are officially pregnancy and child related

Spliced with other info Facebook has about you (particularly what it infers from all your social connections and what it knows from things you've manually entered, like birth year and places of work, other social media accounts) means it can serve ads that seem eerily relevant.

Or in some cases, eerie near misses. A woman your age who uses the word "baby" a lot is likely to be pregnant, at least in terms of sheer probability. They're making a guess that's logical, but still wrong

You can definitely turn off audio capture on all of those apps, but it’s annoyingly to do over and over again because it inhibits use of features like “Instagram stories” (ie you can’t use it at all unless it’s turned on)
